Autopilot and Echo Trade: what each one is, and what to compare
Autopilot and Echo Trade: what each one is, and what to compare.
I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. This is the closest comparison on the list, because both are about following professional managers. The differences are in the source and the structure, so that's where I'll spend the words.
One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.
What it is
Echo Trade describes itself as a way to see what professional portfolio managers buy and sell in real time, letting investors follow real trading activity without high minimums.
What Autopilot is
Autopilot is an app where you follow a Portfolio inside the brokerage account you already have. Autopilot Advisers, LLC is the registered investment adviser that manages the Portfolios. You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to the account you already have. When the Portfolio changes, we send them and your broker fills them. The money stays put.
Our sources are stated per Portfolio: public SEC filings for the institutional trackers, the Pilot's own decisions for the Portfolios they run themselves, and a documented model process for the AI ones.
Where they actually differ
Two things to check, and they apply to any product in this category including ours.
The source. Real-time trading activity and a quarterly 13F are different kinds of information with different delays and different disclosure standards. If a manager is publishing their own trades, ask who they are and what obliges them to be complete. If it's a filing, the delay is 45 or more days and no product changes that.
The structure. Ask whether following means your money stays in the brokerage account you already have, or moves somewhere new. That decides who holds your assets, which is the risk people think about least and should think about most.
What to compare
Four questions sort this whole category.
One. Can you hold it, or only look at it? A table on a website is research. Positions in your own account is following.
Two. Where does your money live? An app that custodies your assets is a different structure with different risks from one that sends orders to the brokerage account you already have.
Three. What's the stated source, and is it written down? A filings tracker, a commentary tracker and a model-driven Portfolio have different failure modes.
Four. What does it cost at your balance? A flat subscription and a percentage of assets cross over somewhere, and where they cross is arithmetic you can do in two minutes with What Autopilot's fee actually means at your balance.
What it costs
A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. Pilot subscriptions are separate and add on if you follow more than one Portfolio. Because it's a flat dollar amount, it's a bigger share of a small account than a big one, so do the math at your balance.
Frequently asked questions
Autopilot vs Echo Trade
Both are about following managers. Compare the stated source of each Portfolio or feed, the delay that comes with it, and whether your money stays in your existing brokerage account.
Echo Trade vs Autopilot
Autopilot follows Portfolios built from public filings, from Pilots' own published strategies, or from model processes, inside the brokerage you already use.
Is Autopilot or Echo Trade better for following portfolio managers?
I can't tell you that, and I'd be suspicious of anyone who does. Sort on source, delay, custody structure and cost at your balance.
Echo Trade alternative
Several products let you follow professional managers. The meaningful differences are what the source is, how long the delay is, and where your assets sit.
Since Autopilot Advisers is an SEC-registered investment adviser, we have to put disclaimers on stuff like this. They're below, and the full version is on our disclaimer page.
