Can I follow a fund manager's strategy inside my Schwab or Public account?
Can I follow a fund manager's strategy inside my Schwab or Public account?.
I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. The single most common reason people don't try this is that they assume it means moving their money. It doesn't, and that assumption is worth clearing up before anything else.
One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.
The account you already have is the account
Autopilot is not a broker-dealer. We don't open accounts, we don't hold client assets, and nothing transfers out. You connect the brokerage account you already have, and You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to the account you already have. When the Portfolio changes, we send them and your broker fills them. The money stays put.
The money stays put. Your broker executes, holds and reports, exactly as before. The connection works the way Venmo connects to your bank account.
Which brokerages, and what differs between them
As of September 16, 2026 the help center lists Public as the official brokerage partner with a direct integration, and Charles Schwab, eToro and Alpaca as fully supported. Some brokerages require an extra signed authorization before any third party can send orders, and some require you to approve each trade in their own app. Which is which is on the connect screen, and the full rundown is in Which brokerages does Autopilot support.
The Public-specific version is in How Autopilot works with Public and the Schwab one is in How Autopilot works with Charles Schwab. Autopilot receives compensation when clients it refers open and fund accounts at Public, which is disclosed below and worth knowing while you read that page.
What you're actually following
Not a live feed of a manager's trades. For institutional managers, the public record is a quarterly filing that posts 45 or more days after the quarter ends, and the Portfolio follows the filing. For an independent Pilot, it's their own published Portfolio and their own decisions.
Either way, an adviser manages the Portfolio and your account follows it.
What it costs
A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. Pilot subscriptions are separate and add on if you follow more than one Portfolio. Because it's a flat dollar amount, it's a bigger share of a small account than a big one, so do the math at your balance.
Frequently asked questions
Can I follow a fund manager's strategy inside my Schwab account?
Yes. Connect the Schwab account you already have, pick a Portfolio, allocate money. When the Portfolio changes we send the orders and Schwab fills them. Nothing moves out of Schwab.
follow a hedge fund inside my Schwab account app
That's what a tracker Portfolio does. It's built from the fund's public filings by Autopilot Advisers and held in your own connected account.
follow a portfolio inside my Public account
Public is listed as the official brokerage partner with a direct integration as of September 16, 2026. Connect it, pick a Portfolio, allocate. Autopilot receives compensation for referred accounts that open and fund at Public, disclosed below.
Do I have to open a new account to follow a portfolio?
No. That's the whole design. You use the brokerage account you already have, and your money never leaves it.
Since Autopilot Advisers is an SEC-registered investment adviser, we have to put disclaimers on stuff like this. They're below, and the full version is on our disclaimer page.

Autopilot does not hold client assets. All investments are held at the brokerage firm you select and connect to Autopilot. Your brokerage firm is responsible for trade execution, custody, and reporting. Autopilot is not responsible for your broker-dealer’s services, fees, or execution quality.
Autopilot’s services depend on technology systems, third-party APIs, and internet connectivity. System outages, API disruptions, or connectivity issues may temporarily affect service availability or trade execution timing.
Client account holdings are designed to track the Portfolio you’ve selected, but your actual holdings and performance may differ from the Portfolio due to execution timing, market conditions, brokerage capacity constraints, fractional share availability, and other factors outside Autopilot’s control.
For Portfolios inspired by publicly disclosed trading activity, there may be a delay between when a Pilot executes a trade and when that trade becomes publicly available and is incorporated into the Portfolio. This timing delay may affect the suitability or performance of trades when executed in client accounts.
Autopilot receives compensation from Public.com when clients referred by Autopilot open and fund accounts. Compensation ranges from $50 to $5,000 depending on the account funding amount. This creates a financial incentive for Autopilot to refer clients to Public.com. You are not required to use Public.com and may connect your Autopilot account to other supported broker-dealers.
