How to follow Renaissance Technologies in your own brokerage account, and what the Jim Simons Tracker is not
How to follow Renaissance Technologies in your own brokerage, and what the Jim Simons Tracker is not.
I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. Renaissance is the most mythologized firm in investing, and the myth is exactly why you should read this before following anything with Jim Simons's name on it. Here's what's public, what our Tracker follows, and the one thing it can never be.
One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.
What the Tracker is not
The returns everybody has heard about belong to Medallion, the fund Renaissance runs for its own people, closed to outside investors since 1993. Medallion's trades are not public, its holding periods are short, and nothing about it is available to anyone. The Jim Simons Tracker does not follow Medallion, cannot follow Medallion, and I'd distrust any product that implied otherwise. Jim Simons himself died on May 10, 2024; he has no relationship with Autopilot, and the Tracker carries his name because that's what people search for.
What's public
Renaissance Technologies LLC, CIK 1037389 on EDGAR, files a Form 13F within 45 days after each quarter ends, listing the firm's reportable US stock positions as of the quarter's last day. It's filed by the firm, not by any one fund, and it's a large, fast-changing filing from a business built on thousands of short-term positions. That filing is the whole public record, and it's what the Tracker follows. How to read one is in How to read a 13F filing, line by line: what's in it, what's missing, and how it differs from 13D and 13G.
Tracking versus following
Tracking is reading that filing as a table. Following means the disclosed positions are held in your own brokerage account and updated after each filing, which is what the Jim Simons Tracker does. Pick the Portfolio, connect the brokerage you already use, allocate money. You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to that account. When the Portfolio changes, we send them and your broker fills them. The money stays put. The Tracker is built by Autopilot Advisers from the public filing; its fact sheet shows the largest positions with a timestamp, lists the rebalance cadence as not disclosed, and publishes the live record of follower accounts since launch, gross and modeled net, with drawdown and a date.
Two honest limits, sharper here than for most funds. The filing lag: a quantitative firm's positions can turn over many times between a quarter's end and the day its filing posts, so what you follow is a snapshot of a moving target. And the record: the Tracker's fact sheet is the only performance that belongs to it. Medallion's history doesn't, and neither does anything written about Simons.
What it costs
A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier runs from $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year; the fee that applies to you is in your agreement. Do the math at your own balance.
Frequently asked questions
How can I follow Renaissance Technologies' holdings in my own brokerage?
Connect the brokerage you already use to Autopilot, choose the Jim Simons Tracker, and set an allocation. The Tracker follows Renaissance Technologies LLC's quarterly 13F; when the filing posts and the Portfolio changes, Autopilot Advisers, LLC sends the orders, your broker fills them, and your money stays at your brokerage. It follows the firm's public filing, not Medallion, whose trades aren't public.
What stocks does Renaissance Technologies hold?
Publicly, whatever its most recent Form 13F on EDGAR lists, under CIK 1037389: the firm's reportable US stock positions as of the last quarter's end, filed up to 45 days later, from a large and fast-turning book. This page doesn't reprint the list because it changes. The Jim Simons Tracker follows that filing and shows its largest positions on its fact sheet with a timestamp.
Jim Simons Renaissance 13F latest filing
Renaissance Technologies LLC's newest 13F is on EDGAR under CIK 1037389, filed within 45 days after each quarter ends and listing US stock positions as of quarter end. It's filed by the firm, not by Medallion or any single fund. Autopilot's Jim Simons Tracker updates after each filing posts and holds the disclosed positions in your own brokerage account.
Can I follow Renaissance Technologies' trades?
Not the trades, which aren't public; the firm's quarterly 13F filing is. Autopilot's Jim Simons Tracker follows that filing in your own brokerage account, with the disclosed lag. Medallion, the fund behind the famous returns, has been closed to outside investors since 1993 and isn't followable by anyone.
