Is there an app that picks stocks with AI? How the AI Portfolios run in your own brokerage
How Autopilot's AI Portfolios pick stocks and run in your own brokerage, and what that is not.
I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. When people search for an AI stock picking app, what they usually find is a screener with a chatbot bolted on, or a paid newsletter that says a model wrote it. That's not what we built, so let me tell you exactly what is behind ours and you can decide if it's the thing you wanted.
One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.
What the AI Portfolios actually are
We publish four Portfolios whose stock picks come from an AI model. One built on GPT, one on Claude, one on Grok, one on DeepSeek. A named lab, Dr. Lira's AI Finance Labs, designs the process and runs the model as the Pilot of record. Autopilot Advisers manages the Portfolio. Your account follows it in your own brokerage.
That sequence matters. The model does not have a login to your account. It produces picks inside a defined process, the Portfolio reflects that process, and when the Portfolio changes we send the orders and your broker fills them. Your money never leaves your account.
Asking a chatbot yourself is not the same thing
You can open any chat model right now and ask it for ten stocks. People do it constantly, and it is worth understanding why that is a different activity.
A chat answer has no record. Nobody wrote down what it said last quarter, so you cannot check whether it was right, and neither can the model. There is no rule for when it sells. There is no rule for how much of your money goes in each name. And you are the one who has to go place every trade, then remember to do it again.
A Portfolio has all of those things written down before you follow it, and a fact sheet with a date on it. That's the whole difference. It is not that a model is smarter than you. It is that a process you can inspect is a different thing from an answer you got once.
Is AI stock picking legit
Depends what you mean by legit. Is there a real, documented process behind these four Portfolios, run by a named lab, with the picks turned into a managed Portfolio by a registered adviser? Yes, and you can read how it works. Is any of that a promise about returns? No, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. I want to be honest with you. Some Portfolios go up for years. Some are flat for years. The model does not change that.
What I'd tell you to do is what I'd tell you about any Pilot. Don't do the research on the stocks. Do the research on the process, and on who runs it.
The three steps
Step one, choose your Portfolio. One of the four AI Portfolios, or something else entirely.
Step two, connect your personal brokerage. Schwab, Public, whichever you already use. Autopilot is not a broker-dealer. We don't hold your money and nothing transfers out. You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to the account you already have.
Step three, allocate the money. From there it runs itself. It connects the way Venmo connects to your bank account.
What it costs
A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. That fee doesn't go up with the number of Pilots you follow. Pilot subscriptions are separate and add on if you follow more than one. Because it's a flat dollar amount, it's a bigger share of a small account than a big one. Do the math at your balance.
Frequently asked questions
AI stock picking app
Autopilot publishes four Portfolios whose picks come from an AI model, built on GPT, Claude, Grok, and DeepSeek. Dr. Lira's AI Finance Labs runs the model, Autopilot Advisers manages the Portfolio, and the Portfolio runs in the brokerage account you already have.
Best AI investing app
I'm not going to tell you we're the best, because that's not a thing I can prove to you. What I can tell you is what to compare. Who designs the process, whether it is written down, whether there is a fact sheet with a date on it, whether the app holds your money or leaves it at your broker, and what the fee is at your balance.
Is AI stock picking legit?
There is a real process behind our four AI Portfolios and you can read it. That is different from a claim about performance, which nobody can make honestly. Treat any app promising returns from a model the way you'd treat a person promising the same thing.
Can ChatGPT pick stocks?
It can produce a list. What it cannot do on its own is keep a record, hold to a sell rule, size positions, or place anything in your account. Our GPT Portfolio exists because those missing pieces are the actual work.
Can I follow a ChatGPT-picked portfolio in my brokerage account?
Yes. That's what the GPT Portfolio is. You connect the brokerage you already use, pick it, and allocate money. When the Portfolio changes, we send the orders and your broker fills them.
AI stock picker vs hedge fund
Different sources of decisions. A hedge fund tracker follows what an institutional manager disclosed in a quarterly 13F filing, 45 or more days after the fact. An AI Portfolio follows a documented model process with no filing delay. Both are Portfolios you can follow in your own account, and both are on the same fact sheets site.
Which AI is best at picking stocks?
Nobody can tell you honestly, because almost nothing anyone says about an AI's picks is checkable afterward. The only honest way to compare models is a public record: the same process, four models, real accounts, dated fact sheets. That's what our GPT, Claude, Grok, and DeepSeek Portfolios are, and the fact sheets let you compare their live records since each launched instead of trusting a ranking. Read the drawdowns before the returns, and remember that the model that led one year hasn't been the one that led the next.
