How to follow Dave Portnoy's public picks in your own brokerage account
How to follow Dave Portnoy's public picks in your own brokerage account.
I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. Portnoy is not a fund manager and doesn't pretend to be. He says what he owns on a livestream. Whether you want that in your account is a real question, and I'll give you both sides.
One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.
What's public
Dave Portnoy founded Barstool Sports and became known in markets through Davey Day Trader Global. There is no filing. His disclosure is a livestream and a posting habit, which is a different kind of public than an SEC document.
What the Portfolio follows
The Dave Portnoy Tracker is a Portfolio in the Autopilot app, managed by Autopilot Advisers. Its description says it is based on his blogs and live streams posted to his account on X, starting from a livestream in which he listed twenty-one stocks. Holdings are equally weighted, rebalanced monthly, capped at twenty-five names, and ordered by the names he has mentioned most lately. If he owns or buys an option, the Portfolio holds the underlying stock instead.
The honest limits
This is the loosest source we build on and I'd rather say that plainly. Commentary is not a filing. A person can mention a stock without owning it, own one without mentioning it, and change their mind between streams. The equal weighting and the monthly rebalance are the Pilot's rules, not his. Read the Portfolio's description in the app, and if what you actually wanted was an institutional manager's disclosed book, follow one of the filings trackers instead.
Tracking versus following
Tracking means you read the positions somewhere. Plenty of sites parse the source and put it in a table, and nothing happens in your account.
Following means the positions are held in the brokerage account you already have, and stay updated. You pick the Portfolio, connect your brokerage, and allocate money. You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to the account you already have. When the Portfolio changes, we send them and your broker fills them. The money stays put.
What it costs
A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. Pilot subscriptions are separate and add on if you follow more than one Portfolio. Because it's a flat dollar amount, it's a bigger share of a small account than a big one, so do the math at your balance.
