How to follow David Tepper and Appaloosa's disclosed positions in your own brokerage account

How to follow David Tepper and Appaloosa's disclosed positions in your own brokerage account.

I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. David Tepper made his name buying what everybody else was running away from, which is why people want to see what he owns. Here's where the public record lives and what following it means.

One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.

What's public

David Tepper founded Appaloosa Management and built the firm on distressed debt, most famously during the 2008 crisis. The firm files a quarterly Form 13F with the SEC. As of September 10, 2026 the current filings sit under Appaloosa LP, CIK 1656456, with an older entity under a separate CIK; the newer filer is the one to read.

A 13F can be filed 45 or more days after the quarter closes. So the filing is old the day it posts, and your account follows it after that. Anyone offering you a fund's trades faster than the filing is not working from public information.

What the Portfolio follows

There is a Tepper Tracker in the Autopilot app as of September 16, 2026, managed by Autopilot Advisers. Its own description in the app is the thing to read before you follow it, and I'm not going to characterize its construction beyond what that description says. What I can tell you is the shape of every tracker we run: a Portfolio built from a public document, updated when a new one posts, held in your own brokerage account.

The honest limits

Tepper's reputation comes from credit, and a 13F shows US-listed stock only. The bonds, the distressed paper, the things the firm is actually known for, do not appear. Add the filing delay and you are following a stock sleeve one quarter behind, not a distressed-debt strategy.

Tracking versus following

Tracking means you read the positions somewhere. Plenty of sites parse the filing and put it in a table, and nothing happens in your account.

Following means the positions are held in the brokerage account you already have, and stay updated. You pick the Portfolio, connect your brokerage, and allocate money. You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to the account you already have. When the Portfolio changes, we send them and your broker fills them. The money stays put.

What it costs

A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. Pilot subscriptions are separate and add on if you follow more than one Portfolio. Because it's a flat dollar amount, it's a bigger share of a small account than a big one, so do the math at your balance.

Appaloosa's quarterly 13F is public on EDGAR and free to read. A tracker's job is to turn what can responsibly be followed into positions in your own connected account.

How can I follow David Tepper's portfolio in my own brokerage?

Connect the brokerage you already use, pick the Portfolio, allocate money. When the Portfolio changes we send the orders and your broker fills them. The money stays at your broker.

Appaloosa 13F tracker app

Appaloosa's filings are on EDGAR under Appaloosa LP. Remember that a 13F covers reportable US-listed stock, which is not where Tepper's reputation was built.
