Autopilot is an investing app for iPhone and Android, not the self-driving car feature.

You pick a Portfolio, connect the brokerage account you already have, and decide how much to put in. On Premium Tier, when the Portfolio changes, we send the orders to your broker. On Basic Tier, you get an alert instead. Your money stays in your account.

To put that into context, as of October 9, 2026, more than $2 billion is invested through Autopilot, and we have over 250,000 users. The app is rated 4.6 on the App Store and 4.7 on Google Play.

Let me explain how it works, what you can follow, what it costs, and how to check us.

1) How it works

It really is just three steps.

Step one, you connect the brokerage account you already have. It has to be an individual or IRA account at a supported brokerage.

Step two, you pick a Portfolio.

Step three, you allocate the money. The minimum is $500 per Portfolio.

You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to place trades in that account. It can't move or withdraw your money. On Premium Tier, when the Portfolio changes, we send the orders and your broker fills them. On Basic Tier, you get an alert instead.

Your account won't match the Portfolio exactly, and you won't trade at the same moment. Orders can go out in batches over the trading day, and Schwab accounts round to whole shares.

2) Who's behind it

The app is run by Autopilot Holdings Corporation. The investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC, which registered with the SEC as an investment adviser effective July 30, 2024. It's CRD 331749.

Four of us started the company in 2020: Brian Schardt, Aaron Langley, Scott Schardt, and me. The first app was Iris, a social investing app. Autopilot launched in 2023. The full story is in The story behind Autopilot.

3) What you can follow

As of October 8, 2026, there are 391 live Portfolios on the marketplace. They fall into two groups: Portfolios we run ourselves, and Portfolios from Pilots.

Many of ours are built from public filings. The Buffett Tracker holds the 15 largest positions in Berkshire Hathaway's quarterly 13F. The Pelosi Tracker+ is built from politicians' public stock filings, inspired by Nancy Pelosi's.

We also run Inverse Cramer, which some people call reverse Cramer. It buys the stocks Jim Cramer is bearish on, meaning a "Bearish," "Sell," or "Trim" call, and holds the top 20 by market cap.

Pilots are independent investors and firms who publish their own Portfolios. Autopilot doesn't design these Portfolios. Pilots do.

One of the longest-running AI Portfolios on Autopilot is the GPT Portfolio from Dr. Lira's AI Finance Labs. It's been on Autopilot since April 20, 2023. An AI scoring system gathers fundamental data on every stock in the S&P 500. It pairs that data with eight macro data points, like interest rates and unemployment, and gives each stock a score. The Portfolio holds the top 15 and is rebalanced monthly. The model generates the picks. The Pilot reviews and implements the changes, and we send them to client accounts. More on that in Is there an app that picks stocks with AI?

Every Portfolio has a performance chart in the app.

4) Which brokerages work

Public, Robinhood, eToro, Alpaca, and Charles Schwab. Interactive Brokers is in beta.

Public is our official brokerage partner. It pays us a referral fee when someone we refer opens and funds an account there. It doesn't change what you pay us, and you don't have to use Public.

At Robinhood, you approve each trade in the Robinhood app before it goes through. Schwab accounts on Autopilot don't trade fractional shares.

5) What it costs

You pick a tier for each Pilot.

Basic Tier has no Autopilot fee. We send your broker the starting allocation, then send you an alert when the Portfolio changes.

Premium Tier is a flat subscription for each Pilot, charged in advance, quarterly or yearly. Where your broker allows it, we automatically send your broker the rebalancing instructions when the Portfolio changes. The fee runs from $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter, or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. Once you pick Premium Tier for one of a Pilot's Portfolios, you can follow that Pilot's other Portfolios on Premium Tier without another fee. https://link.joinautopilot.com/eXKr?c=about-autopilot&af_sub1=body

Our own Portfolios, like the Buffett Tracker, the Pelosi Tracker+, and Inverse Cramer, come under one subscription called Autopilot Premium. As of October 9, 2026, it's $29.99 a quarter or $99.99 a year.

The AUM Fee, a percentage-of-assets fee, is 0.00%. Your broker's own costs are separate.

6) How to check us

Here's what you can check yourself.

  • Autopilot Advisers is registered with the SEC. Look up CRD 331749 on the SEC's adviser search.
  • While you're there, read our Form CRS. It's two pages and covers our services, fees, conflicts, and disciplinary history. We don't have any disciplinary history.
  • Your money stays at your broker. Autopilot doesn't hold client money. We collect our fee by charging a credit card.
  • The authority you give can't move or withdraw your money.
  • Your broker is the SIPC member, not us. SIPC protects customers if a member brokerage firm fails. It doesn't protect against a drop in the value of your investments.

What nobody can tell you in advance is whether a Portfolio will make money. I want to be honest with you. This is not a get rich quick app. Some Pilots go up for years, some are flat for years, and some lose money.

Research the person and the Portfolio.

7) Where to get it

The app is called Autopilot: Automated Investing. It's on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android.

Go spend 10 minutes in the app. Look through the Portfolios. Read the description, the holdings, and the performance chart before you put money in.

TLDR: Autopilot is an investing app for iPhone and Android. You connect the brokerage account you already have, pick a Portfolio, and allocate at least $500. You give Autopilot Advisers, LLC, an SEC-registered investment adviser (CRD 331749), limited authority to place trades, and it can't move or withdraw your money. You can follow Portfolios we run, like the Buffett Tracker and Inverse Cramer, or Portfolios from independent Pilots. Basic Tier has no Autopilot fee. Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter per Pilot.
