Brooker Belcourt's Portfolios on Autopilot: the oligopoly strategies and the AI team Portfolios

Brooker Belcourt's Portfolios on Autopilot: the oligopoly strategies and the AI team Portfolios.

Chris Josephs7 min read

I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. This is one of the clearest stated philosophies on the platform, and whether you agree with it or not, it's the kind of thing you can actually evaluate.

One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.

Who they are

Brooker Belcourt's Portfolio descriptions say his background is at leading hedge funds, that he learned his investing philosophy at Coatue under Philippe Laffont, that he learned timing and trading at Citadel, and that he ran the finance vertical at Perplexity AI.

The Portfolios, and what each one says it does

Oligopolies Only is described around one rule: own only companies with market share above thirty in a growing theme, which the description says applies to fewer than a hundred companies in the world, and pick the best ten of those. It also says the Pilot will never own what he calls poor companies. There's a version that excludes crypto.

#1 Players In Largest Theme is described as companies with monopolistic tendencies operating in the strongest current themes.

AI Leaders is described as applying the same philosophy inside the AI theme: first spot the most important trend, then own the dominant companies within it, the ones supplying the chips, the power, the cooling, the inspections and the distribution. It has its own page in The AI Leaders Portfolio.

There are also four Portfolios organized around the major AI labs and open-source models. As of September 16, 2026 their descriptions in the app are still being written, so I'm not going to characterize them. Read them in the app when they're there.

What to check before you follow

A concentrated ten-position Portfolio is concentrated. A rule that says never own anything outside a narrow set is a real constraint, which is the point and also the risk, since a strategy this focused can be out of favor for a long time.

Read the Portfolio's own description in the app, because that's the Pilot's statement of method and it's more specific than anything I'd write here. Look at the worst decline rather than the return, because that's the number that decides whether you hold on. Check how often it changes, since turnover costs money and creates taxable events in a taxable account. And check the fee at your balance, which is arithmetic in What Autopilot's fee actually means at your balance.

How following works

You pick the Portfolio, connect the brokerage you already use, and allocate money. You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to the account you already have. When the Portfolio changes, we send them and your broker fills them. The money stays put.

What it costs

A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. Pilot subscriptions are separate and add on if you follow more than one Portfolio. Because it's a flat dollar amount, it's a bigger share of a small account than a big one, so do the math at your balance.
