Ryan Hillier's Portfolios on Autopilot: Project Alpha, Ignition, and Fortress
Ryan Hillier's Project Alpha, Ignition, and Fortress Portfolios on Autopilot, from moonshots to compounders, and how to follow them.
I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. Ryan Hillier runs three Portfolios that line up like a dial: a moonshot Portfolio, a quality-growth Portfolio, and a durable-compounder Portfolio.
That makes his lineup easy to read. Here's each one.
One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.
1) Who he is
Ryan Hillier is an independent Pilot. He creates and manages all three Portfolios.
His description says he's a healthcare executive with an MBA and a background in strategy and capital allocation, and that his approach is disciplined research, high-conviction stock selection, and a strong focus on opportunity cost.
2) Project Alpha
The moonshot end of the dial. A concentrated Portfolio aimed at asymmetric growth across AI infrastructure, photonics, space, advanced energy, quantum computing, physical AI, and precision medicine. Holdings are picked for disruptive technology, accelerating commercial traction, and identifiable catalysts, with position sizes reflecting conviction and execution risk.
For those unaware, asymmetric means the potential upside is meant to be much bigger than the potential downside. In practice, early-stage companies like these can also lose most of their value.
3) Ignition
The middle. A concentrated quality-growth Portfolio focused on the platforms and infrastructure behind AI, cloud computing, semiconductors, memory, networking, electrification, and next-generation connectivity, picked for durable advantages and strong execution.
4) Fortress
The durable end. Businesses with strong balance sheets, recurring cash flows, and defensible positions, across technology, financial infrastructure, healthcare, industrials, and essential consumer services.
Its description says it prioritizes capital preservation. That's a goal, not a promise. Stocks can fall, good ones included.
5) How to choose between them
Pick the end of the dial you can live with in a bad year. Project Alpha will swing the most and Fortress the least, by design.
I want to be honest with you about one thing. Project Alpha and Ignition both lean on AI infrastructure, so following both may mean more overlap than it looks. Check the holdings side by side.
6) How following works
Pick a Portfolio, connect the brokerage you already use, and allocate money. You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to the account you already have. When the Portfolio changes, we send them and your broker fills them. The money stays put.
A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. Pilot subscriptions are separate and add on for each Pilot you subscribe to. Because it's a flat dollar amount, it's a bigger share of a small account than a big one, so do the math at your balance.
TLDR: Ryan Hillier runs three Portfolios on Autopilot: Project Alpha for concentrated moonshots, Ignition for quality growth in AI and infrastructure, and Fortress for durable compounders. They run from most to least volatile by design. Check overlap before following more than one.
