White Coat Wealth on Autopilot: an index-anchored Portfolio for busy professionals, and how to follow it

White Coat Wealth on Autopilot, an index-anchored Portfolio for busy professionals, and how to follow it in your own brokerage.

I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. Plenty of Portfolios on Autopilot are built around a big idea. This one is built to be boring, on purpose.

That's a compliment. Here's who it's for and how it works.

One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.

1) What it is

White Coat Wealth is created and managed by Dr. Jay Patel, an independent Pilot.

Its description says it's designed for the busy professional, the person who doesn't have the time or the appetite to manage a Portfolio actively. The name is a nod to people in white coats, whose schedules rarely leave room for watching markets.

2) How it's built

The description lays out a simple approach. Anchor the Portfolio in low-cost, broad-market index funds. Keep costs very low. Rebalance on a disciplined schedule, with a tilt toward high-growth industries.

For those unaware, that's close to what a lot of sensible long-term investors do by hand. The difference is that somebody else keeps it rebalanced for you.

3) What I'd say about it

Just like you, I used to think index funds were enough, and for a lot of people they are. It's not rocket science, and no one's stopping you from buying them yourself.

So the case for following this instead of doing it yourself is the maintenance and the tilt. If you'd really rebalance on schedule by hand, you may not need it. If you wouldn't, that's what it's for.

4) The risk, said plainly

I want to be honest with you. Index funds go down when the market goes down. Broad exposure spreads your risk across a lot of companies; it doesn't remove market risk. And a growth tilt means it can lean further into the parts of the market that fall hardest in a sell-off.

Look at the worst stretch in the record, and check how it overlaps with any index funds you already own.

5) How following works

Pick the Portfolio, connect the brokerage you already use, and allocate money. You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to the account you already have. When the Portfolio changes, we send them and your broker fills them. The money stays put.

A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. Pilot subscriptions are separate and add on for each Pilot you subscribe to. Because it's a flat dollar amount, it's a bigger share of a small account than a big one, so do the math at your balance.

TLDR: White Coat Wealth is Dr. Jay Patel's low-cost, index-anchored Portfolio for busy professionals, rebalanced on a schedule with a growth tilt. It's built to be low-maintenance. It still moves with the market.
