Is there an app that invests toward a house down payment for me? What Wolf Financial's Buy a House Fund is
Why money for a house down payment is exposed to market drops, and what Wolf Financial's Buy a House Fund is designed to do.
I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. This page is going to be more cautious than most, and I want to tell you why up front.
A down payment is money you need on a date. That changes everything about how to invest it. Let me explain, then I'll describe the Portfolio.
One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.
1) The problem with investing money you need soon
For those unaware, stocks tend to rise over long stretches, but they can fall a lot in any given year. If you need the money in 18 months and the market drops right before you buy, you can end up with less than you started with, right when you need it.
That's why a lot of people keep money for a near-term goal in things that don't swing much. I'm not going to tell you what to do with yours. I'm telling you the trade-off, because it matters more here than almost anywhere.
2) What the Buy a House Fund is
The Buy a House Fund is created and managed by Wolf Financial, an independent Pilot.
Its description says it's a diversified Portfolio built from exchange-traded funds, giving broad market exposure plus some sector-specific opportunities, with a focus on growth trends, industrial strength, and innovative themes. It describes itself as a balanced approach to long-term investing.
3) The name versus the design
Here's the part that matters. The name is a goal. The design is a long-term, diversified ETF Portfolio.
Those can fit together if your house is years away and you can ride out a bad stretch. They fit badly if you need the money soon. Nothing about the Portfolio's name changes how the market behaves in a given year.
I want to be honest with you. No Portfolio can promise you'll have your down payment by a certain date. Anyone who says otherwise is selling something.
4) Who it might suit
Somebody saving for a home that's a long way off, who wants broad, diversified exposure and can handle the swings along the way.
Wolf Financial's other Portfolios are covered in Wolf Financial's Portfolios on Autopilot.
5) How following works
Pick the Portfolio, connect the brokerage you already use, and allocate money. You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to the account you already have. When the Portfolio changes, we send them and your broker fills them. The money stays put.
A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. Pilot subscriptions are separate and add on for each Pilot you subscribe to. Because it's a flat dollar amount, it's a bigger share of a small account than a big one, so do the math at your balance.
TLDR: The Buy a House Fund is Wolf Financial's diversified, long-term ETF Portfolio. The name is a goal, not a promise about timing. Money you need on a specific date is exposed to market drops, so think hard about your timeline before you use any stock Portfolio for it.
