Is there a way to invest in the PayPal Mafia's public companies from my own brokerage?

How the PayPal Mafia Portfolio holds public companies tied to PayPal's alumni, and how to follow it in your own brokerage.

I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. The PayPal Mafia is one of the great stories in Silicon Valley history, and people ask how to invest in it.

You can't invest in a group of people. You can invest in the public companies they built, funded or advised. Here's the Portfolio that does that.

One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our disclaimer page.

1) The story

Two startups founded in the late 1990s, Confinity and X.com, merged in 2000 into what became PayPal. The people behind it went on to found and back an unusual number of important companies. The group got nicknamed the PayPal Mafia, and it includes people like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.

That's the story. The investing question is which of those companies trade publicly.

2) The Portfolio

PayPal Mafia is created and managed by The Rabbit Hole, an independent Pilot.

Its description says it holds public companies the group has been associated with through founding, investing, or advising, and in some cases companies that later acquired them. So it's a technology Portfolio organized around a network of people rather than a sector.

None of the people involved have anything to do with the Portfolio or with Autopilot.

3) What that means in practice

For those unaware, a lot of the group's most famous companies are private or were acquired, which means they can't be bought in a brokerage account. The Portfolio holds what's public.

And because it's organized around a network, it can end up concentrated in large technology companies. If you already own a broad index fund, check the overlap.

4) The risk, said plainly

I want to be honest with you. A great origin story doesn't make a great Portfolio. What matters is what it holds, how concentrated it is, and how it's done in a bad stretch.

The Rabbit Hole runs several other story-driven Portfolios, covered in The Rabbit Hole's Portfolios on Autopilot.

5) How following works

Pick the Portfolio, connect the brokerage you already use, and allocate money. You give Autopilot Advisers limited authority to send orders to the account you already have. When the Portfolio changes, we send them and your broker fills them. The money stays put.

A flat cash subscription, not a percentage of your balance. Per our Form CRS dated February 2026, Basic Tier has no Base Advisory and Licensing Fee, and Premium Tier is $29.99 to $199.99 a quarter or $99.99 to $699.99 a year. Pilot subscriptions are separate and add on for each Pilot you subscribe to. Because it's a flat dollar amount, it's a bigger share of a small account than a big one, so do the math at your balance.

TLDR: The PayPal Mafia Portfolio holds public companies founded, funded, or advised by PayPal's alumni, and some that acquired them. It holds only what trades publicly, and it can be concentrated in large tech, so check the overlap with what you own.
